Scoring

Why did this sun lotion score 70?

AI reads the label and classifies the ingredients. A fixed formula calculates the score, so the same product always gets the same score.

  • 1

    Hazard

EU banned and restricted lists, CMR and endocrine-disruptor classes, allergens.

  • 2

    Amount

The first ingredients on a label weigh most; under 1% is a trace.

  • 3

    Use

A cream left on the skin counts for more than a rinsed-off shampoo.

Repeats of the same kind count less each time, which is why trace allergens cost so little.

A product with a moderate-risk ingredient tops out at 70; with an ingredient banned in the EU it can't go above 10.

Restricted is not dangerous.

UV filters and preservatives are allowed up to a safe maximum. Inside that limit they are not penalised just for being regulated.

Your profile never changes the score.

Pregnancy, your allergens or a fragrance-free preference add notes just for you; the product's score stays the same for everyone.

Frequently asked questions

Is this medical advice?

No. Purency gives information about ingredients and doesn't replace a product's legal safety assessment. Ask a doctor or pharmacist about allergies, pregnancy, babies or a skin condition.

Where does the information come from?

Ingredient classes follow the annexes of the EU cosmetics regulation (banned, restricted, preservative and UV filter lists) and public hazard data. Product data comes from Open Beauty Facts (ODbL) and from people's scans.

How is the score calculated?

AI reads the label and classifies each ingredient by risk. A fixed formula calculates the score from the ingredient's hazard, its position on the label and whether the product stays on the skin. The sun lotion above shows the whole calculation.

How reliable is an “Estimated” score?

If the product is known, the estimate follows its known formula; otherwise the typical formula for that kind of product. That's why its confidence shows as low or medium. Scanning the label replaces the estimate with the real list.

What happens to my data?

No ads, no tracking across other apps, and we don't sell your data. Your skin profile is never shown to anyone or sent for analysis. You can delete your account in the app at any time. The privacy policy has the details.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhones running iOS 18 or later. The app is in English and Turkish.
